End of season update

Hi everyone, it’s been a while since we’ve updated you on what’s being going on – but that’s mainly because we’ve been seeing you every week at training!

End of Season/training
Thursday 1st September saw the final week of Thursday evening sailing – the year has gone so fast! It has been a great season (despite the weather!), and we have averaged around 40-45 juniors each week. A huge thank you must go to our volunteer instructors, who travel a long way to make sure that sailing takes place – we really could not manage without you!

Broadland Youth Regatta
On Saturday 3rd September, a team of 16 juniors travelled from Horning to Hickling Broad Sailing Club for the Broadland Youth Regatta. Sailing boats from Optimists to Teras, Toppers, an Enterprise and a Laser, we had entries in every one of the fleets. In challenging (but great) conditions, stand out performances came from Natalie Stiff in the Toppers, and James Galloway in the Fast Handicap fleet, who both came 9th respectively. We were very impressed at the determination and perseverance of all the Horning sailors, they were fantastic ambassadors for the Club!

Junior Regatta
Our final event of the sailing season will be the Junior Regatta, which will be held at Horning (either the Broad or River) on the morning of Saturday 24th September 2011. All juniors are very welcome. It is usually a great event, and a good celebration of the year’s activities. We would hope to get started around 9am, so if young people could arrive around 8.30am, that would be helpful. Following the regatta, there will be a presentation of certificates during the year and a buffet lunch, if you could all please bring a plate of something that would be appreciated. If you intend to come, could you please let us know so that we can plan for numbers. We look forward to seeing you there!
